Overall Indicators

These visualizations serve as an introduction to the My Degree Counts overall indicators. My Degree Counts is a broad initiative that aims to increase college attainment in the greater Houston region. The Center for Houston’s Future spearheaded this initiative as part of the CEOs for Cities Talent Dividend Competition, and named this effort MY DEGREE COUNTS. These visualizations will assist in helping the region track our overall indicators: attainment rates, talent dividend growth measurements and overall degree completions over time by gender and race/ethnicity.

College Going Culture

These visualizations assist high schools and school districts throughout the region to better monitor graduation rates and FAFSA completion rates. In particular, My Degree Counts places an importance on raising FAFSA completion rates in economically disadvantaged and highly Hispanic school districts in order to boost college enrollment region wide. This data demonstrates high school graduation rates as well as FAFSA completion rates by MDC “high needs” partner districts and individual schools within those districts.

High needs has been defined for the purpose of this dashboard as districts throughout the Houston region with a large percentage of economically disadvantaged and/or a large percentage of Hispanic students. The districts presented on this page are in no way representative of all districts in the greater Houston region, however, they are a representative sample.

Adult Learners

These visualizations show degree completions by age for adults age 18-24, 25-39 and 40+. Adult learners (25+) comprise a large percentage of students currently enrolled in community colleges and returning to school. An increase in the graduation rate among this population will benefit businesses and the Houston region economy as a whole. This data demonstrates college enrollment and degree completion by age in order to better understand the percent of adults enrolling in and completing a college education throughout the Houston region.

Student Progress

This data demonstrates overall graduation rates, graduation rates by gender and race/ethnicity and persistence rates for full-time vs. part-time students (all important indicators for raising college completion rates throughout the region).
